K1 media is a form of biological media used in the filtration process for water treatments. This moving bio beds serve as housing for good bacteria that is material for nitrification.which has been scientifically tried and tested in fish farming and waste water treatment for over 10 years,is now available for fish keepers .The media is engineered in a wheel shape and is slightly positively bouyant. This allows a small amount of water flow to circulate the media throughout the vessel. This flow is created with your air pump and air stones or diffuser etc.
How is K1 media works
Maturing the bio-media is important because a delicate eco-system is naturally developing for the bacteria involved in the nitrification process. K1 media provides the maximum active surface area for the bacteria to colonise, more than other types of static media. It is this process which removes harmful ammonia and nitrite from the water.
Advantages of K1 media process in municipal wastewater treatment
1.Small occupation area: Under the condition of the filler filling rate of 15% and the same pollution load, the moving bed biofilm reactor accounts for about 20-40% of the tank capacity of the conventional biofilm reactor (anoxic, anaerobic and aerobic).
