Post Tags: Influence of sludge concentration on Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)
(1) When the sludge concentration is high, the sludge is easily deposited on the membrane surface, forming a thicker sludge layer, resulting in increased filtration resistance and reduced membrane flux.
(2) When the sludge concentration is too low, the sludge's ability to adsorb and explain dissolved organic matter is weakened, so that the concentration of dissolved organic matter in the mixture increases, which is easily adsorbed on the membrane surface to form a gel layer, resulting in increased filtration resistance and decreased membrane flux.
Under certain operating conditions, the membrane flux is basically linearly related to the logarithm of sludge concentration. Although a higher sludge concentration can increase the volumetric load of the bioreactor, the decrease in membrane flux will limit the effluent flow and thus affect the treatment capacity of the whole membrane bioreactor. Therefore, the sludge concentration of the membrane bioreactor is not easy to be too high, and a reasonable sludge concentration needs to be obtained through commissioning in the project operation
