The Aquasust UV Tube Settler precipitator uses multiple tubular channels that are adjacent to each other and angled at a nominal 60˚ angle to create an increased effective settling zone. This configuration allows for shorter particle set-up depths, and as the tube settler channels collect solids, they form a compact mass that promotes solids to slide down the channels. Tube sedimenters are an inexpensive way to upgrade existing clarifiers and settling tanks by allowing increased flow rates and/or improved performance. They can also reduce the footprint of new clarifier construction.

Aquasust UV Precipitator Manufacturing Process

 

While extrusion sizers and thermoforming sizers generally perform the same, they are designed and manufactured in very different ways. The extrusion process takes a raw material, in this case plastic, and pushes it through a mold to create a specific shape. (Think of making spaghetti out of Play-Doh when you were a kid). The shape of most extruded tube settlers is usually a "V" shape with a tongue and grooves on either side. After the shapes are extruded, they are assembled side-by-side as well as back-and-forth. This type of design provides a tubular channel much like a thermoformed tubular settler module.

 

However, a significant difference between extruded and thermoformed tubing is that extruded tubing does not have wavy (or flat) pieces at all. This weakness in the design results in the need for a stronger and more complex support system, as they cannot accommodate the same unsupported spans as thermoformed tubes. In most cases, this means that the material and installation costs of the support system for extruded tube sinkers will be much higher.
