AquaSust Tube Settler Description:
The basic theory of PVC tube settlers is that it reduces the detention period to few minutes and achieves the required settling of the turbidity in comparison with conventional settling basin having detention period of 1-4 hrs. This is possible because of the vast area for settlement offered by the tubes installed within the clarifier unit. The area of settling basin is reduced with the high over flow rates viz. to the extent of two to three times higher than convention basins. Less filter backwashing equates to significant operating cost savings for both water and electricity. Tube settlers and parallel plates increase the settling capacity of circular clarifiers and/or rectangular sedimentation basins by reducing the vertical distance a floc particle must settle before agglomerating to form larger particles. Tube settlers have in general an advantage over plate settlers regarding equal flow distribution.
Because PVC tube settlers consist of several smaller channels the water flow is split between each channel resulting in similar flow velocities throughout each channel of the tube settler. However, plate settlers consist of large layers which favor zones of higher flow velocities (short circuiting) and zones of little or no upward flow velocity at all (Deadzones). Tube settler design involves the use of multiple tubular channels sloping at an angle of 60 degrees and adjacent to each other. This helps in increasing the settling area effectively. Tube settler design reduces the depth significantly compared to the conventional clarifier. This helps in reduction of settling time. The resulting assembled blocks have high out-of-plane compression and shear properties comparable to a honeycomb structure. Therefore,AquaSust plastic tube settlers (in combination with the right support structure) are walkable for maintenance and cleaning purposes.
