In general, mbbr wastewater treatment requires lesser space when compared to activated sludge system because of the more concentrated biomass.

 

The MBBR Biofilter Media lagoon system consists of an activated sludge aeration system where the sludge is unruffled on recycled plastic carriers. These carriers have an interior large surface for finest contact water, air and bacteria. It provides many advantages such as flexible reactor design, being easy to function and control, and providing a low load on particle separation stage. The MBBR procedure uses floating High Capacity Micro Organism Bio Chips media within the aeration as well as anoxic tanks. The microorganisms devour organic material.

New media carriers can be used to upgrading an existing extended aeration system, a single pass MBBR treatment process or they can increase the effective capacity of existing activated sludge systems as an Integrated Fixed-film Activated Sludge (IFAS) process.

 

The carrier media has been specifically developed for the biodegradation of carbon and the elimination of nitrogen in industrial as well as in municipal wastewater treatment plants and, due its specific characteristics, can be used equally for aerobic, anaerobic and anoxic processes. The results are extremely high removal rates in denitrification, nitrification and COD elimination process.
