how it works
Mbbr media or some will say that kaldness is important for building a sustainable ecosystem by providing suitable breeding grounds for the beneficial bacteria that take part in the nitrification process. MBBR/Kaldness provides the greatest active surface area for bacterial colonization, exceeding other types of static media. This process removes harmful ammonia and nitrites from the water.
How is it different from other media?
The MBBR/Kaldness are designed to move freely around the filter area and are therefore exposed to the constant chaotic movement of air and water from their respective pumps. This causes the medium to clean itself, removing stuck debris and rejuvenating old dead bacteria to be replaced by new, younger repopulated bacteria. In addition to this, continuous exposure to oxygenated water increases the nitrification process of bacteria, which significantly increases the volume decomposable by bacteria on the medium to the ratio of ammonia/nitrite.
