What is BOD?
BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand): refers to the mass concentration of dissolved oxygen required in the biochemical process of microorganisms in water to decompose organic matter under aerobic conditions. In order to make the measured values of BOD comparable, a time period is generally specified, and the dissolved oxygen consumption in the water is measured. Generally, five days are used, called the five-day biochemical oxygen demand, which is recorded as BOD5, and the five-day biochemical oxygen demand is often used. . The larger the BOD value, the more organic matter contained in the water, and therefore the more serious the pollution.

How MBBRs work
The MBBR process utilizes a floating plastic carrier (media) within an aeration tank to increase the number of microorganisms available to treat wastewater. Microorganisms consume organic matter. The media provides increased surface area for biological microorganisms to attach to and grow in the aeration tank. The increased surface area reduces the footprint of the tank required to treat wastewater. The medium is continuously agitated by air bubbles from the aeration system, which adds oxygen at the bottom of the first compartment of the aeration tank. Microorganisms consume organic matter. It offers superior efficiency and value compared to traditional secondary treatment.
