As a result of years of research and development, a structured filtration media has been developed. The bio-block has proven to be very effective in the biological treatment of process water in domestic wastewater, industrial wastewater and aquaculture.
The filter media, which is environmentally friendly, is made of polyethylene and consists of mesh tubes that are welded together to form a square block. The unique surface structure of many of the mesh tubes provides a large, usable surface area to enhance biological growth on the filter media.
This surface serves as a substrate for specialized bacterial strains capable of treating and degrading various qualities of wastewater. The treatment capacity of a biofilter depends on the amount of bacteria the filter can handle. The larger the specific surface area, the greater the number of bacteria. The construction, renovation or upgrading of future biological wastewater treatment plants is simply a matter of creating the best "living conditions" for the bacteria. Bioblocks are well characterized in this regard and the result is increased treatment capacity.
